HA NOI — Remains of US servicemen who died during the war in Viet Nam was repatriated at Noi Bai International Airport yesterday.
Attending the ceremony were representatives from the Viet Nam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP), US Ambassador to Viet Nam Michael Michalak and representatives from the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC).
After signing the Process-Verbal, the Viet Nam Government representative handed to the US side four boxes of remains which were recovered during the 93rd Joint Field Activities (JFA) from October to December, 2008.
The remains were jointly reviewed by Viet Nam and US forensic specialists who concluded that they might belong to US servicemen who went missing during the war in Viet Nam. The scientists recommended the remains be sent to Hawaii, the United States, for further review. This is the 108th hand-over of American missing servicemen’s remains since 1973.
Speaking at the Repatriation Ceremony, the US Government Representative expressed deep gratitude and appreciation for the steadfast humanitarian policy, good-will and the increasingly efficient co-operation of the Viet Nam Government and people. — VNS
