Their hopes have been dashed before. Now the family of Army Capt. Arnold Holm must wait at least a little longer after receiving news this week that DNA tests were inconclusive in helping identify remains found at the site of Holm’s 1972 helicopter crash in Vietnam.

Holm’s widow, Margarete, could not be reached Wednesday for comment. His sister, Meg Brewster of Cromwell, acknowledged the news was disappointing.

“Obviously it’s discouraging,” she said. “But I’m sure they’re all doing everything they can do.”

Arnold “Dusty” Holm of Waterford was 28 when he was shot down in Vietnam in 1972. Spc. Robin Yeakely of South Bend, Ind., and Pfc. Wayne Bibbs of Blue Island, Ill., also were killed. The crash site was identified in 2005. A small amount of remains was recovered last spring.

The news came Monday from the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command in Hawaii. U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, D-2nd District, offered his condolences to the family.

“I share the disappointment of so many who had hoped for better news,” Courtney said. “My thoughts are with Meg Brewster and Margarete Holm who have been waiting for some measure of closure, and I offer my gratitude to the countless individuals who remain devoted to bringing Arnie home.”

Courtney vowed the effort will continue.
