Remains Of Central Texas Soldier Missing Since 1950 Identified

KWTX - Waco, TX, USA

(November 18, 2008)-- The Army has identified the remains of a Central Texas soldier who had been missing in action since a Korean War battle in 1950.

The Army said the remains of Cpl. Librado Luna of Taylor will be returned to his family for burial with full military honors in his hometown on Nov. 25, which is the 58th anniversary of the battle during which he disappeared.

Luna was assigned to the 8th Army Ranger Company, 25th Infantry Division, then attached to B Company, 89th Medium Tank Battalion as part of Task Force Dolvin.

He was part of a troop formation arrayed along the leading edge of the U.N. front near the Chinese border on Nov. 25, 1950, when the Chinese Army attacked in force.

Of the 91 men in the two companies involved in the Battle of Ch'ongch'on River, 22 escaped safely.

Luna and nine other men were among those reported missing after the battle.

A girl led a joint U.S.-North Korean excavation team to a battlefield burial site containing human remains. DNA testing helped to identify those remains as Luna's.
